Matts Jonasson Maleras is home to traditional Swedish glass crafts and a strong Swedish artistic tradition, whilst representlng a new generation of designers and craftsmen. Mats Jonasson Maleras creates both unique forms of art glass and other functional products. Beginning as an apprentice engraver in 1959 and then several decades as a glass artist has helped him to develop his distinctive style, inspired by the natural world around him. Matts has been gathering talented artisans aound him since 1981, and thus since has yielded results beyond expectation. These works have been inscribed into Swedish glass history as one of the most successful. Maleras old glassworks was founded in 1890.
Spirit: An eternal rest. At Mats Jonasson Maleras, traditional know-how and the skillful hands of the master glassblowers meet in perfect unison. The crystal is formed into memories for the eternal rest. This line of sepulchral urns and monuments of crystal, under the name of Spirit, has seen the light of the day. Mouthblown urns are created from a patented formula of decomposable glass. This glass gradually disintegrates when buried in moist soil. The same urns can also be ordered in crystal. Keepsake art is rendered with a free flowing organic style and hand carved with great detail. Grave markers in crystal add an elegant feature to traditional stone or metal materials.
